Pat Young was sitting on the school bus (in New York) when many of the other kids started making fun of a very heavyset girl. Pat decided to join in on the harassment and was so ashamed when the young girl broke down and cried. The Lord convicted and broke Pat’s heart that very day. From that moment on the Lord gave Pat the gift of compassion and mercy to those who are broken.
Pat was led to volunteer for Teens N Tots with Covenant Love Church in North Carolina. She had an active part in walking alongside pregnant or parenting teens. Pat assisted the girls with their physical needs, education on good parenting and as a mentor to live their lives in a hope filled way.
Pat was blessed to help the homeless population. At the Homeless Coalition Day Center, in North Carolina, she worked to coordinate and provide short-term help for basic needs as well as a referral agent for local resources and community partners. Pat was a case manager at Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network. Her duties there were to help and develop solutions for homeless families and their children. The goal for these families was to educate with long-term self-sufficiency a priority.
When Pat moved to Lynchburg, Virginia, the prison ministry at Blue Ridge Regional Jail held her heart. She visited the girls weekly and provided the inmates with life skill counseling to help the girls successfully reintegrate into society. When the opportunity to serve at No Walls became available she was thrilled and humbled at the same time to help build relationships in
Pat moved to Northern Virginia in February 2015 to pursue a new project, "Look Behind The Walls", a prison ministry at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center.
