Richard (Dick) Govers grew up in Southern California but has lived more of his life on the East Coast. He majored in Physics at UCLA where he met Lynne, his wife. He started a professional career as a US Navy nuclear submarine officer, then as engineer and project/business manager at Babcock & Wilcox out of Lynchburg, VA for 24 years, spending nearly ½ that time living with his family in Germany, Canada, and Japan. He also traveled extensively to and in Russia for B&W and took time to earn an MBA. Taking early retirement from B&W, Dick helped a friend start a nuclear engineering consulting business, which has been operating since 1997.
Dick became a Christian through a campus ministry while at UCLA and since then has been active in churches in four countries on three continents as a result of many family moves with two children, who now have six children of their own. In 2003 Dick and Lynne helped to start Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, VA, where he has served as ruling elder. Professionally he enjoys helping to make things work. Personally he enjoys teaching from the Bible and helping people realize their potential in Christ.
